forgotten feast

Our friends at Forgotten Feast have lined up another fantastic event for fans of good food and great company. Next Friday 9th March at 7pm, they'll be serving up an elaborate Moorish banquet made entirely from surplus produce at The Russet, Hackney Downs Studios.

forgotten feast

Surplus food is delicious, healthy produce that hasn’t made it into the shops because too much was ordered, it’s in the wrong packaging or it’s just a bit wonky. And by coming to this event you'll be saving food that would otherwise go to waste, and also helping raise awareness of the problem.

You can get tickets here, and £1 from each meal will go directly to FareShare which will in turn help feed 4 hungry people. Everyone will be sitting together for the meal, so come with friends or come alone and make new ones. All make sure you come hungry, as there's plenty to go around.

pancake day

Noone seems to talk about Pancake Day anymore. Maybe it's not cool to pan fry batter, chuck it about a bit then coat it with lemon and sugar. Maybe noone knows how to make batter these days. Or maybe, despite all the hype, they just don't taste very nice.

Who cares? Pancake Day is the one night in the whole year when you don't have to have a proper tea. There are no greens to plough through, no food groups to tick off, just eggs, flour, butter and milk all mixed together on a plate with your topping of choice. We can't think of anything we'd rather be eating tomorrow night.

'tis the season... be eating cauliflower, parsnips, potatoes, celeriac and purple sprouting broccoli. Fruit fans should wrap their chops around British apples and pears.

A tasty veg curry and some baked fruit sound pretty good to us.
