We want the fruit we buy to come from plantations that respect and enhance local human, social and environmental rights. We hopefully achieve this by;
- Having zero tolerance on the basics - we only procure fruit from suppliers who sign up to the minimum standards set out by the International Labour Organisation. Our fruit suppliers know that if they're not signed up to the ILO, we simply won't trade with them.
- Paying extra for ethics - we favour suppliers approved by independent environmental and social auditors, and we pay a premium for fruit from farms with the highest ethical accreditation such as the Rainforest Alliance. We also pay a premium to source fruit locally if the quality and variety is available.
- Inspecting and improving conditions in the farms that we visit, and educating suppliers on environmental and social best practice. Our procurement team make a habit of getting out there and checking.
