We finally got there.

In September 2007, we were the first company in the world to put drinks on shelf in 100% recycled plastic* bottles, using this material for four of our recipes. As of January 2008, all our smoothie recipes are now cradled by 100% recycled PET** plastic.

We've been working on this project for quite a while. In 2003 we started using bottles made from 25% recycled plastic and in 2006 improved it to 50% recycled. All the time, people told us that it would be impossible to get to 100%, but we tried and tried and tried again. And now we're here. 100%. It means a 20% reduction in materials (we've made the bottle lighter) and a 55% carbon reduction in terms of the bottle's manufacture. It's a big step for a little company. We're very proud. Now for some more big steps (and plenty of little ones too).

Jess (our sustainability manager) says "We've always been a business that has taken our environmental impact seriously, and this move to 100% recycled content in our bottles is extremely exciting. Not only is it a world first, but it means that now innocent will be saving over one thousand tonnes of C02 each year which is great news for the planet."

And Mike Childs, Head of Campaigns at Friends of the Earth, said "This food & drink industry first demonstrates that carbon saving is possible if businesses choose to work at it. innocent are clearly leading the field in reducing their carbon footprint and their pioneering work on developing and using a 100 per cent recycled bottle will hopefully be followed by others. Beating climate change will however need more than the efforts of a few green minded businesses which is why Friends of the Earth's Big Ask Campaign is calling for a strong Climate Change Bill to provide incentives to other businesses to look for these types of solutions."
