Being sustainable

We sure aren't perfect but we're trying to do the right thing.
It might make us sound like a Miss World contestant, but here at innocent, we want to leave things a little bit better than we find them. We strive to do business in a more enlightened way, where we take responsibility for the impact of our business on society and the environment, aiming to move these impacts from negative to neutral or (better still) positive. It's part of our quest to become a truly sustainable business where we have a net positive effect on the wonderful world around us. Below you can see our strategy for doing so as well as our performance to date:

What we eat not only impacts our health but also the health of the planet. So if you want to eat a sustainable diet, one that is healthy for you and the planet, what do you need to do?

This is where it gets tricky. There are no black and white answers as to what is good and what is bad. It depends on all sorts of stuff from where, when and how your food is produced and transported through to how much gets wasted at home and along the way.

What is very clear though is that there is a need for some changes. After all, if everyone lived (and ate) as we do in the UK, we would need at least three planets to support us.

Given that we only have one available, that's a problem. Especially since the one that we have isn't in the best shape, what with all the significant global challenges going on.

We want to make sure we're doing everything we can to lower the impacts associated with making our products, whilst at the same time ensuring that they taste great and are healthy for you. Getting the right balance between impact and nutrition underpins our entire sustainability strategy.

It might make us sound like a Miss World contestant, but here at innocent, we want to leave things a little bit better than we find them. A really important part of this is making sure that our products are good for you (full of healthy stuff and nothing weird) and good for the planet (produced with the least possible environmental or social impact). We call this sustainable nutrition.

What we eat every day is one of the main things that determines our impact on the planet. In the UK the food we eat (growing, producing and importing it) is responsible for 30% of our carbon emissions. Food can also have lots of other impacts including the cutting down of forests, heavy use of water for irrigation and pollution of water and soils from agrochemicals.
