Let me tell you about Terence Goose.

Back in the 1840s he earned a fair crust polishing the doorknobs at Kinbleaky House, Leicestershire. But after a fit of the vapours, he stopped polishing and took to the gardens. Slept out there for years, under the bushes, becoming ragged, doing things with a trowel. And when he came back into the house 15 years later, he shouted "I've done it", before keeling over right there on the spot. And that is the story of how gooseberries were invented. Really.
