anthony the catapulp champion

For the past 2 weeks we've been hosting a Catapulp game on our website. Competition has been fierce but there can only be one winner: Anthony, who scored a total of 6202 oranges.

We didn't think it was humanly possible to reach such a high score so we invited Anthony to come in to our office to prove his skills in person on our big screen. It was a grand moment. Passers-by in the kitchen were mesmerised by his skills and lots of pieces of toast got burnt.

a special visitor

Mondays can be a struggle. It's a known fact. Fortunately though, our day was made a little brighter when we had an unexpected visitor.

Dog 2
Meet Bluebell.

Despite the frantic looking photo (and that menacing eye), Bluebell was in fact a very friendly dog. After a bit of magic from our very own dog whisperer Madhu, Bluebell even sat and gave her paw.*

Dog 3
This really hasn't done anything to help our obsession with getting an office dog.

If you have any ideas on how we can convince our office manager, please do let us know.

a special film makers' workshop

Saturday 19th Feb, 2011.

For many, this will go down as the day when it rained a lot, or as the weekend where they had a particularly tasty croissant for breakfast.

But for me, Sat 19th Feb will be marked as my favourite day at work. Ever.

A few weeks ago, we blogged a post inviting people to come along to a special film makers' workshop here at Fruit Towers. 60 soaked, but surprisingly chirpy, budding film makers came through the doors of the Towers on Sat for a very special workshop with Ben Wheatley - film director, funny man, and chap who made our advert.

With beanbags and biscuits, and a Wizard of Oz style presentation from up on the balcony, Ben shared some of his top tips for film making, ranging from how to use storyboards effectively to the importance of time management in directing.

We'll let you into a secret...the number 1 rule of film directing?

Never, ever sit down.

In the afternoon, our budding film makers were set loose to create their own 30 second mini movie superhero movie, armed with Ben's tips and a no expenses spared* film makers' kit.

*this may not be strictly true

They looked up for the challenge, so we threw in additional angle of artistic opportunity/anguish and gave them each a genre or theme for their mini movie, ranging from slasher horror to circus chic.

They spent a bit of time brainstorming...

...and then the magic started to really happen as the gaffa tape came out, the fishwire was attached, and a selection of Fruit Towers' finest random props were put to excellent use.

The result? 9 truely excellent films watched with lashings of popcorn that had us in stitches.

Check out some of the results, and find out how you can get involved in our mini movies competition here.

Thanks so much to those of you who came down for the day. We'll be smiling about it for a while to come.

a morning of coffee and cake

MacMillan Coffee Morning

We all love that warm and fuzzy feeling when we help someone out, don't we?

Well that's what our Fliss did on 24th September when she organised a MacMillan coffee morning here at Fruit Towers.

There were cakes galore

P1000323

And plenty of tea and coffee to wash it down with.

P1000313

Eddie had a run-in with a blackcurrant cheesecake (it wasn't pretty).

P1000328

MacMillan sent one of their most important people over to sample our tasty treats with a nice brew.

He's the one on the right, next to Kat.

P1000331

Whoever was talking seems to have him and Kat hanging on every word.

Jo rounded the morning off nicely (whilst burning a few calories), re-enacting that famous scene from 'Big'.

P1000339

Every penny raised went to MacMillan Cancer which made eating so much cake on a Friday morning all the more acceptable.

Big pat on the back to Fliss and everyone else who spent the previous evening knees deep in icing.
