Thoughts from December 2014

Meet the Knitters: Wendy and the Knit & Natter group at Age UK Devon

We were absolutely blown away this week when the lovely Wendy got in touch to say that her Knit & Natter group at Age UK Devon had made a whopping 20,000 hats for the Big Knit this year. That is the largest total we have ever heard of and our minds were well and truly boggled. We got back in touch with Wendy to find out a bit more about the group behind the hats.

We found out that there are twenty five people who regularly attend the Knit & Natter groups but not everyone knits - some just come because they know they will find warmth and friendship, plenty of chat and a good cuppa. Sometimes there's even cake.

The knitters make all sorts of things; little jackets for the local premature baby unit as well as bedsocks, scarves, mittens and other ‘keep warm’ items (most of which are given away in their local community).

And, of course, they also make little hats. The Big Knit is one of their favourite projects and keeps everyone knitting throughout the year.

We hope they'll be patting themselves on the back for some time to come because their hard work is going to make a massive difference to this year’s campaign. We bow down to you, Knit & Natter group of Age UK Devon. You are the greatest.
