reasons to be cheerful

We don't know about you, but now that all the short weeks and long weekends are over and we've finally come to terms with the fact that we'll probably never marry Prince William or Kate Middleton, we've been finding it a bit tricky to drag ourselves out of bed each morning.

What we need are some things to look forward to, so we've scoured the internet and our somewhat limited imagination and come up with the following, guaranteed to have us hop-skip-and-jumping out of bed come Monday.

Pete and bbq

Summer is well and truly on its way and according to Michael Fish and his chums we're due a spell of proper hot weather over the coming weeks. There've been some opportunities for practice runs over the last couple of months, but now it's time to get serious, scrape the remnants of last year's efforts from the grill, and fire up those barbecues.

CONDIMENTS

Even better, it means it's okay to put sauce, relish, chutney and dressing on absolutely everything that crosses your plate. And with standard sauce etiquette out the window there's no need to restrict yourself to just one at a time, making salad cream and smoked bbq relish a perfectly acceptable combination.

You're also practically guaranteed to see someone using a hand held fan. You might even be the proud owner of one yourself, in which case it's high time you dug it out and popped it into your knapsack with the rest of your summer kit (antihistamine cream for those pesky bites, hayfever remedy, tissues for mopping up ice cream dribbles). Can't remember where you put it? It's probably in the very useful drawer in the kitchen. Minus its batteries of course. They'll be in the remote control.

Lucky egg

Finally, if eggs are any kind of indicator of good things to come, then we are most definitely in for a treat. A few weeks ago we found a multifaceted egg in our weekly delivery from Treflach Farm which lasted a total of 2 hours and 43 minutes as our lucky mascot before coming to a very messy end on Jojo's keyboard. And then last week Joe cracked not one, not two, but three double yolkers into the pan for his Friday morning fry up.

Things are really looking up.
